When the majority of people think of tai chi, they think of it as a slow moving exercise done for relaxation or as a type of moving meditation. While it can be these things, it’s also a traditional martial art form. Tai Chi Chuan is the first name for this martial art form and it means "supreme ultimate fist." The name indicates that Tai Chi was initially intended to be a martial art form and not an exercise for seniors.

Since tai chi is slow moving, individuals think that tai chi is not a martial art form. When you watch individuals training karate or kung fu, you see rapid, powerful movement. In tai chi, every single movement looks like it’s completed in slow motion. Just because it is done in slow motion does not mean it cannot be executed rapidly.
